Our eyes see what we want them to see, that is why it is so difficult to proofread our own work. A fresh pair of eyes will make all the difference to ensure your text is both professional and accurate, this is where Ultimate Proof can help.
FREE SAMPLE PROOFREAD: To help you decide if you need a proofreader, or if our service is right for you, we can check a sample of your text free of charge. Simply attach a sample page of your text when you send your enquiry. It would be helpful if you provided an estimate of your final total word or page count.
The proofreading service includes:
-
checking the text for spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors
-
checking consistency and accuracy of text, typography and design (fonts, spacing, usage of bold, italics, underlining, paragraphing, etc)
-
cross-checking headings, sub-headings and page numbering with the Contents page
-
checking that the legends and labels of illustrations or tables link up and are correctly referenced in the text
-
verifying names, contact details and websites
-
ensuring references are in alphabetical order and are consistent in style (eg, Harvard)
-
comparing your proofs/PDFs with edited copy or previous proofs, or proofreading ‘blind’, without a reference copy
-
hard copy proofs: marking up amendments using British Standard proofreading symbols using a coloured pen for easy reference
-
PDF proofs: marking up amendments on screen using the text edits facility in Adobe Acrobat
-
following any style guide supplied by you, or creating a style guide for you to ensure consistency with spelling, hyphenation, etc
-
liaising with you to resolve any queries
-
where required, creating a proofreading log which summarises the main errors and inconsistencies and raises any specific queries.
The proofreading service does NOT include:
Levels of service available
Level 1 - One proofreader will check your text, in detail, as per the above list.
Level 2 - Two proofreaders will check different sections of your text in parallel. This is usually only necessary when you are working to a tight deadline and have a large amount of text to proofread. Any additional costs incurred for this service level will be reflected in our quotation.
How much does proofreading cost? We will provide you with a quotation to help you plan your costs.
If you are at an early stage, you can send a short sample of your work along with an estimate of the total word or page count. We can then give you a cost estimate.
If you have a document that is ready to be proofread, then you can send this to us and we will provide you with a quotation.
Most jobs are quoted on a fixed fee basis, so you know exactly how much to budget for. We tailor each quotation to your specific requirements and our regular clients can benefit from preferential volume discounts.
A minimum charge of £17.00 applies to small, one-off jobs.
