Your content – polished, consistent and recognisably yours.

You've researched, drafted, edited and spell-checked your text – perhaps with help from ChatGPT, Copilot or a colleague – and the deadline is approaching. What you need now is a calm, experienced pair of eyes to make sure everything reads exactly as it should: clear, accurate, consistent and unmistakably you.

That's where I come in.

What I do.

I provide careful, reliable proofreading and editing for organisations that care about the quality of their communications. With 25 years of publishing experience at CIEP Professional Member level, I bring genuine editorial judgement – not just a spell-check.

Increasingly, that judgement includes something AI tools can't offer: knowing what your organisation should sound like. More of the content I review now starts life with AI assistance – it may have been drafted in ChatGPT, or 'magically' designed in Canva, or your articles 'tidied up' by Copilot. It's often technically fine and still somehow not quite right: I'm seeing text that is over-punctuated, generically toned or just a little off from how my clients would actually say it. Catching that is now as much a part of this service as catching a typo.

I work on:

  • reports and policy documents
  • annual reports and impact publications
  • prospectuses and brochures
  • newsletters and member communications
  • charity and campaign materials
  • digital content and web copy
  • business communications and marketing materials.

What's included.

Every proofreading and editing project includes the same careful attention – whether your document needs a light final check or fuller editorial support:

  • checking spelling, grammar, punctuation and formatting
  • improving clarity, flow and readability
  • ensuring consistency across long or multi-contributor documents
  • brand voice and consistency review – making sure content sounds like you, whatever tools helped create it
  • preparing AI-generated or AI-assisted content for publication
  • creating style guides and tone of voice guidelines, so future content starts closer to right.

Not sure whether you need a light proofread or a fuller voice and consistency review? I'll tell you honestly when we speak – and I'll only recommend what your document actually needs.

A note on AI-assisted content

If your content now starts with AI – whether that's a ChatGPT draft, Copilot suggestions or a Canva design with AI-generated copy – I can work directly with what you have. I'm not precious about where a first draft came from. My job is making sure what goes out the other side is accurate, on-brand and reads like it was written by someone who knows your organisation, because by the time I've finished with it, it has been.

"Kelly's extremely accurate in her work and always goes above and beyond to point out inconsistencies which we may have otherwise missed."

– Golley Slater

Featured case study.

Here's an example of what a complex, high-stakes proofreading project looks like in practice:

Verifying a 50,000-word insurance policy for absolute accuracy before release

Relationship snapshot
I have worked with the Marketing Team at Ecclesiastical Insurance for around 15 years, proofreading a wide range of materials including policy documents, annual reports and marketing materials. The example here is one illustration of the kind of complex, high-stakes work that relationship regularly involves.

Project snapshot

  • 72-page insurance policy
  • 50,000 words
  • Technical like-for-like comparison
  • Pre-publication verification

Challenge
A newly designed insurance policy needed to be checked against the previously approved version to ensure the technical wording matched exactly and that all earlier amendments had been implemented correctly.

What I did
I carried out a detailed word-for-word comparison of the two documents, verifying that all approved mark-ups had been applied. I also checked formatting consistency and flagged any typos or discrepancies using Adobe Acrobat mark-up tools.

Outcome
The client received a fully verified policy document with clear mark-ups, ensuring the updated version was accurate, consistent and ready for release.

Working with business authors.

If you're a consultant, leader, entrepreneur or professional writing a business book – and your manuscript is structurally complete but needs a careful, experienced eye before it goes to your editor or publisher – I can help.

I work with business authors at the line editing and proofreading stage. I'll help you make sure your book reads as clearly, consistently and compellingly as possible.

I work particularly well with authors whose books sit in the world of leadership, faith, social impact, conservation or professional expertise – subject areas where I understand both the content and the audience.

This is an intentionally focused service. I take on a small number of author projects each year alongside my B2B work, so if you're interested in working together, I'd recommend getting in touch early.
