Your communications, in safe hands.
Some organisations have a communications team but not enough capacity. Others have brilliant people who know their mission inside out but aren't sure how to turn that into a well-managed, high-quality publication. Many are somewhere in between.
If you need someone experienced to step in, take ownership and get things done – calmly, reliably and to a high standard – that's what I do.
For an example of what embedded faith sector communications support looks like in practice, see the Diocese of Gloucester case study below.

Who this is for.
This service is for purpose-driven organisations – charities, faith bodies, conservation and heritage organisations, schools and membership bodies – that need flexible, senior-level communications and publications support without the cost or commitment of a full-time hire.
You might need me if:
- you have a publication to deliver but no one to manage the process end to end
- your communications team is stretched and needs an extra pair of experienced hands
- you're producing an annual report, newsletter series or campaign and need someone to coordinate contributors and keep everything on track
- you want part-time or ongoing contract support from someone who understands your world.
What I can do for you.
I bring 25 years of communications and publishing experience to every project. I'm not a junior coordinator – I've managed complex government publications at Natural England, run editorial teams, produced diocesan communications for the Church of England, and supported publications projects for organisations ranging from national charities to independent schools.
Here's what working with me can look like:
Publications project management – taking a publication from brief to delivery. Planning timelines, coordinating contributors, managing design and print relationships, maintaining quality throughout.
Editorial coordination
– keeping multi-contributor publications on track. Managing schedules, chasing copy, ensuring consistency and preparing content for design or sign-off.
Communications support
– helping your team produce newsletters, reports, bulletins and campaign materials to a consistent, high standard. Acting as an editorial anchor when capacity is stretched.
Part-time or contract engagement
– working alongside your team on a regular basis, getting to know your organisation and becoming a reliable, trusted part of how you communicate.
'Kelly managed all aspects of the production process extremely well, delivering well-conceived, timely and attractive publications, often to short deadlines and always against a background of competing priorities.'

Here's an example of what embedded communications support looks like in practice:
Delivering weekly diocesan communications as an embedded member of a Church of England communications team
Project snapshot
A 16-month employed communications role with the Diocese of Gloucester – producing weekly publications, writing faith stories, supporting a national campaign and representing the diocese in the media.
I joined the diocese on a 12-month contract, later extended, as Communications Officer – an employed, embedded member of the team working closely with colleagues across the diocese.
Challenge
The Diocese of Gloucester's Communications and Engagement Team is a small, busy team responsible for communicating the work, life and mission of the Church of England across Gloucestershire – to over 2,500 clergy, church workers and lay members, as well as the wider public. The team needed a Communications Officer who could hit the ground running, manage a demanding weekly publication schedule, write compelling stories and support public campaigns (#EcoChurchInAnHour,
#liedentity) with real reach and impact.
What I did
At the heart of the role was The Bulletin – the diocese's flagship weekly newsletter. I managed the full production cycle each week: gathering content, writing and editing copy, coordinating contributors across departments and distributing via Mailchimp. Over 16 months I produced more than 60 issues, maintaining consistency, accuracy and tone throughout.
Alongside the weekly publication cycle I interviewed clergy, congregations and diocesan staff to find and write compelling stories about faith, community and church life across the county – content that appeared in The Bulletin, The Messenger and on the diocesan website.
Outcome
The diocese had a reliable, consistent communications presence throughout my time in post. The Bulletin reached its audience every week without interruption.
When I left the role, the diocese asked me to continue on a freelance basis for a further two months to cover the position while they recruited my replacement – a reflection of the trust the team placed in my work.

My background in purpose-driven organisations.
I've spent much of my career working with and for organisations that exist to make a difference. I was
Publications Officer at Natural England for nine years, managing countryside and conservation communications for a national government body. I worked as Communications Officer for the Diocese of Gloucester, producing publications that reached congregations and clergy across the county. My freelance clients include
Tearfund,
Stewardship
and
Christians Against Poverty.
I'm a practising Christian and feel a particular connection to faith, conservation, heritage and education – not because it sounds good on a page, but because these are the sectors where I do my best work.

How we might work together.
Every engagement is different, and I'm flexible about how we structure things. Some clients bring me in for a single project with a clear brief and deadline. Others want ongoing support – a half or full day a week, remote or hybrid – becoming a familiar and reliable part of their communications rhythm.
Whatever the shape of the work, I bring both experienced human judgement and AI-assisted tools to the table. That combination means faster turnaround, greater consistency, and more of my energy focused on the thinking, shaping and decisions that genuinely need expert attention.
I'm open to:
- One-off publication projects – annual reports, brochures, award submissions, conference programmes, newsletters, white papers, or a website copy refresh
- Fixed-term contracts (part-time or full-time) – covering a parental leave period, supporting a product launch, leading communications through a rebrand or organisational change.
- Ongoing retainer arrangements – a set number of days per month to cover regular newsletters, social content, internal communications, press releases, or editorial oversight of marketing output.
- Employed part-time roles within the right organisation – two or three days a week embedded within a marketing, communications or executive team, acting as a senior communications lead without the full-time overhead.
If you're not sure what shape the support should take, that's fine – I'm happy to have an initial conversation and help you work it out.
